where the wild things are

We are unlearning to build a relationship with our garments, due to fast fashion becoming the norm of consumption. “Where the wild things are” embraces and shows that any garment can be turned into something meaningful through your own imaginations. The chosen garment were H&M hiking pants, which were of such low quality that you would probably never wear them for an actual hike. But the fact that they were meant for hiking was the starting point to explore what hiking means to me. Hiking for me is a way to experience the world like a child again and that is where “where the wild things are” by Maurice Sendak came to mind. One of the story’s main themes is the strong idea of imagination and the places it can take you. The protagonist Max creates a new world in which he can control his own destiny and escapes from reality. Hiking for me is what can bring me closest to experiencing your surroundings in the present and loosing thoughts and worries about future or past. You start letting reality pass by and your imaginations to flow.

The collection of wild things uses 95% of the H&M hiking pants.

Mycelium might be the material of the future. Inspired by the structure of the super material, we (Remi Vanderhaegen and me) created a 3D fabric design in collaboration with BYBORRE using BYBORRE CREATE.

secret tags

In graffiti culture, tagging is the way to spread your name as a graffiti artist. Everyone knows your tag, yet no one knows its you tagging.

Emphasisng that paradox, the rings are made from personal tags. Known to the owner, but cryptic to everyone else.

In collaboration with Basia Pruszynska for KVADRAT, we decided to bring the hard material “REALLY” back to its soft origin - textile. We focused on in-depth dying and texture investigation with a goal of finding ways in which color and texture can enhance REALLY’S natural qualities.

REALLY is made out of textile waste that used to be thrown away during the process of fabrication.
